Franklin Plumbers
Named after the famous inventor, Ben Franklin, the residents fought hard to remain an independent town, warding off the annexation to bigger cities nearby and establishing this rural area as Franklin. Incorporated in 1956, the townspeople have maintained the spirit of their ancestry by honoring various historic events at their local library, featuring school children’s researched projects, and celebrating time-honored traditions. Now, the community has over 35,000 residents; supports the Franklin Public School District as well as private elementary schools; maintains almost 4,000 acres of parks, including sixteen city parks; offers over 5 denominations a place to worship; and houses the Wheaton Franciscan Hospital, as well as numerous assisted living, retirement, and group homes.
